January News Round Up:
On the 4th of January the university of Hargeisa spread a courtesy lunch invitation to the newly elected ministers and deputy ministers of the Republic Of Somaliland to which they so gracious obliged, the University and the officials from the government discussed cooperation, moving forward together, education, research, skilled work force and the advancement of the people.
Highlights of the event and important statement are as follows:
The president of the University of Hargeisa Dr. Mohamoud Yusuf Muse stated the following:
The University Of Hargeisa is the biggest university in the country, it yields the largest number of graduates every year and has produced many important figures in the government, business, humanitarian sector and in many other industries, the Alumni of the University Of Hargeisa prides itself in having even the President of the Republic Of Somaliland Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi as a graduate of this very university. The best investment whether it’d be financial or non-financial is investment in education and the betterment of our knowledge resources. The new government has a world of knowledge at its expense since the university is in possession of people whether they’d be deans or directors or professors who are experts at their field.
The University Of Hargeisa belongs to all of the citizens of Somaliland since it’s the university of the capital of Somaliland and since most of the individuals in positions of power today and in previous times have either been teaching, attending or involved with the university in one way or another and that the University Of Hargeisa is no individual man or woman’s property and therefore we should strive for its betterment and advancement together.
To which the Vice president of Academic & Research Mr. Sicid Mohamed Jibriil added to the presidents word and urged the ministers to be at the forefront of building and empowering this university.
The Mohamoud Hussein Farah – Dean Of College Of Law who was granted to opportunity to speak on behalf of all dean in the university stated the following:
Today we have government heads and officials who are the right people who can make a change for the better, our University the University of Hargeisa, its government and its people are a family and together we should work for the betterment of this university. the university is the corner stone of establishing a qualified human resources base for both advancement in the economic sector and in the political sector, the university possesses a huge resources base of both man power, technology and intellect and should be taken advantage of for purposes of progress.

Mr. Cabdirashid Xaaji Ducaale Qanbi Cabdalla – Minister of Public Works
“I’m currently a student at the institute for peace and conflict studies and I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible knowledge base and the quality of education of the university, I was pleased to see so much progress and advancement in the university, the knowledge is impeccable and I believes that anyone who truly cares about the betterment of this university should be by the side of the university of the university of Hargeisa and in full support of its progress, I think its absolutely mind blowing to be in a gathering where education is discussed so enthusiastically”
Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Abdi Rage Minister of development of Finance
“I was actually one of the very first individuals whom were instrumental in the University Of Hargeisa’s very early fundraising activities and in fighting a lot of the un seen forces that hinder education such as tribal division, every time one reaches for success they can only do so through education. The Republic Of Somaliland is undergoing a lot of positive changes, I have always relied on benchmarking for my employee selection process on educational and then integrity and sound character and nothing else, my point behind that is I want to empower education, integrity, experience and believe in one another and stimulate love in the people for our country. We have so much work to do and so many issues to work through the pioneering issues facing us today being inflation and decline of the market value of our money, raising awareness, the wide spread of tribalism, the discrimination and the invisible walls between people et cetera. We will be working closely with the Hargeisa School Of Economics and the College Of Law. We will be paying close attention to the capacity of universities and the work that they’re doing, we will be requiring private universities to submit financial statements so we can tax their profit income, we will also be taxing their payroll. We will be creating an order and procedure for everything. Some areas I’d like to enhance at the university are empowering research and development. This government will be giving first preference to the pressing important matters and the university of Hargeisa is in our priorities”

“I believe that all of our people in positions of power are academics and people of knowledge therefore it’s easier to share a one vision for our future, we are more than open and ready to support the university of Hargeisa in its stride to advance our educational system”

“I have graduated from the University Of Hargeisa, I’m a citizen of this country and serving my country my people is my first mandatory duty. Our new government is guided my knowledge and its in full support of it. Our education is of international caliber and our student’s current and past regardless of where they live hold proof of that, their impressive skills and knowledge is time and time again praised by individuals from all backgrounds. We should be aware of the fact that our education is of a very high international standard and we should believe in that”

“I was a teacher at the University Of Hargeisa, in every country the university bearing the name of the capital is usually at fore front of education and the University Of Hargeisa is no different. The University of Hargeisa graduates have more employment opportunities at their expense”

“The University Of Hargiesa is the mirror of our country; it is where our society should be mobilizing its people, where our country should be teaching its people, the minister of information and national guidance is in full cooperation with The University Of Hargeisa regarding broadcasting and media. He also stated that he would insha Allah teach at some point for free!”
Mr. Abdirahman Abdilahi Farah Diriye (Guri-garwaaqo) was also granted a certificate of appreciation by the University Of Hargeisa.
The courtesy lunch meeting between the newly appointed ministers of the Republic of Somaliland and The University Of Hargeisa Marked the first point of collaboration between the public university and the government. The University Of Hargeisa was very successful in starting a point of continued cooperation between the university and the new government.
